How to manually install the DirectX Extensions for Alias Maya

Follow these instructions to manually install the DirectX plug-in for Maya. I used Maya 6.0.1 and DirectX 9.0 SDK (April 2005).

  1. Download/Install DirectX 9.0 SDK
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/directx/directxdownloads/default.aspx
  2. Copy

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft DirectX 9.0 SDK (April 2005)\Utilities\Bin\x86\dxcc.dll

    to

a directory in the path (like C:\Windows\System32)
  3. Copy

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft DirectX 9.0 SDK (April 2005)\Utilities\Bin\PlugIns\Maya\Binary6\Plug-ins\D3DMaya6ExportX.mll

    to

    C:\Program Files\Alias\Maya6.0.1\bin\plug-ins
  4. Copy

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft DirectX 9.0 SDK (April 2005)\Utilities\Bin\PlugIns\Maya\Binary6\Scripts\*

    to

    C:\Program Files\Alias\Maya6.0.1\scripts\others
  5. Copy

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft DirectX 9.0 SDK (April 2005)\Utilities\Bin\PlugIns\Maya\Binary6\Icons\*

    to

    C:\Program Files\Alias\Maya6.0.1\icons
  6. Start Maya
  7. Load the DirectX plug-in
    Windows Menu -> Settings/Preferences -> Plug-in Manager...
Make sure D3DMaya6ExportX.mll is loaded by clicking:

    [X] loaded

You should have a DirectX Menu right before the Help menu
    Also check:

    [X] auto load

So the plug-in will be available automatically the next time you start Maya.
